2003 Goretti Sagrantino di Montefalco Le mura saracene
Tasted by MarcInDSM. Really good wine. Started out with aromas of pure red fruit and a hefty dollop of what I thought was oregano and someone else thought was cedar box; probably somewhere in between. This really evolved after several hours. Best after about two hours. It wwas bursting with red fruit flavors to start, but that integratd into a combination of that with old world flavors working harmoniously together. Then, after about 3-4 hours, all that was left were tannins and little flavor. Quite a bit of sediment at the bottom. Rating reflects peak (2-3 hours into it). 2002 Joseph Phelps Insignia
Tasted by gpette01. opened two bottle for christmas dinner with filet, decanted for 2 hours. tasted immediately and was shocked, tried is again in two hours and was again shocked, terrible. this is my favorite wine, i have the '02 almost 10 times and i either had two corked bottles from one of my six packs or it took the holidays off. tannic, not smooth at all, what can i say im shocked. i have quite a few bottles left and will not touch them for a while. i thought my palate was off so i opened a 2002 caymus special select- its was delicious straight from the bottle. hold this wine, its going through a weird phase. i wont even rate it- i have too much respect for insignia and backus, i know its a great wine but NOT now, i hope it turns around. - Tasted 1/5/2009. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $

2005 Château Pontet-Canet
Tasted by Roel van Gestel. Tasted at the château. Thank you, Jean Michel, for opening this treat. Enormous aromatic profile. Cinnamon, ripe strawberry, roses, cassifruit and o so fresh and exciting. A complex, mouth filling wine. Loads and layers of fruit, very ripe and sweet, but not overdone. Fresh, deep and creamy. Solid ripe tannins. Superb lenght. Wow!! 95/100 (95 pts.) - Tasted 5/25/2008. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $

2005 Mitolo Shiraz G.A.M.
Tasted by Eckie. No formal tasting notes, but a delicious refined Shiraz. The fruit is very much there, but not like an ex-plosion and very much layered. Good stuff! (92 pts.) - Tasted 1/5/2009. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $

2005 The Winemakers' Collection Michel Rolland Cuvée No. 1 Château d'Arsac
Tasted by cobbpa. Slightly vegetal nose, a little dark cherry or raspberry buried in there but it's a very closed nose--hard to pick anything out. Some fruit's there, the body is great, the tannins pull a ridiculous amount. I did get some chocolate on the back end, some fruit too. I enjoyed it with food and still feel that's it's a good wine because of it's body, structure, and the quality of components there. 2005 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot
Tasted by *Vine*. Popped and poured. Simple aromas of fruit, mocha, and vanilla. Medium bodied (at least compared to other recent vintages of this wine). Very smooth up front, refined flavors of blackberries, cocoa, and prominent oak. Tannins are noticeable yet supple on the medium-short finish, with the oak winning out in the end.
Seems to lack the concentration one would expect from a Foley made Merlot but that could just be the 2005 vintage.
This may get better...but this is the 2nd time I've tried the '05, and, IMO, not nearly as good as any of the previous 4 vintages...and I am a big time Pride Mountain fan. (88 pts.) - Tasted 11/30/2007. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $

2006 Neyers Syrah Old Lakeville Road
Tasted by beachnic. I actually liked the 2005 better and this did not taste or smell like a syrah that much. it's ripe, smooth but doesn't have alot of character for my money. (89 pts.) - Tasted 1/2/2009. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $

2006 Neyers Syrah Old Lakeville Road
Tasted by Vinacull. Day 2 from the decanter. Nose is nearly the same, with the exception of a mild acetone aroma. On the palate there is significant improvement. Like yesterday there is still the tongue-coating fruit of blackberries, black cherry, and blueberries, but now also significant weight from earth and minerals, and a day of air has brought out some fine grained tannins as well. A slight medicine or band aid element in midpalate, but barely noticeable. For me this is much more enjoyable and distinctive on day 2. Hopefully this portends what this wine can achieve with time.
